Local Watchmaker – K2 Watch Company

I often receive emails from local guys asking me where to service vintage Seiko watches in Singapore.

Besides Goh Seo Choon whom I often recommend, there is also another watchmaker shop known as ‘K2 Watch Company’ located at Tanjong Katong Complex that services vintage Seiko’s as well as other watches. This shop was set up in 1982 and has a similar setup as Goh Seo Choon (those who have been to Goh Seo Choon will know what it looks like). Shop is also licensed to buy and sell preowned watches under the Second Hand Goods Dealers Act.

Owner was trained in watchmaking at a very young age as you can see in the picture below.

Photos in the picture were taken in the 70s.

Equipments are used to service watches.
Here’s one for regulating watches.

And here’s one for cleaning watch movement.

Here’s a customer’s 6105 being serviced.
I wonder who is the lucky owner of this beautiful watch.

Here’s a LNOS 6117 Navigator Timer waiting to be serviced.

Shop also has donor watches on standby in case you bring your
precious watch in for servicing. Here’s a beat up 6309.

Shop stocks various types watch parts and accessories including some rare items.

Rare Rolex parts including crowns, mainsprings and wheels, etc.

Here, you will also find a small collection of BNIB Seiko and Casio watches. In fact, this shop is Seiko dealer.

Here are some affordable vintage watches.
Expensive ones are kept in the safe. You need to ask when you are there.

Besides watches, you will also find various watch straps and accessories here.

Zulu style and various types of silicon straps.

It’s a small shop but you will find big items like these as well.

Hi guys, I was introduce to K2 by a SWXer (SEIKO Guru).
K2 Goh had serviced 4-watches for me …. All running good & well.
I’ve recommend K2 to other friends. He’s doing a good job.

Hi was wondering, will you recommend K2/ Goh over Thong Sia if I want to service a 90-ish 5m43 Seiko Kinetic? Haven’t been to Thong Sia before and don’t know if they are any good.

    Hi
Do K2 have its own website? Do they also import japan domestic models?.

Don’t know if someone can convey this to Mr Goh of K2, but in August 2010, he did a battery change for my Seiko SBQJ015 (8F56 (quartz perpetrual calendar)), and set the year wrongly. I told him on the spot that it was wrong, according to the Seiko manual which I brought along and showed him, but he refused to follow the manual, he showed me the hand-drawn instructions that he said a watchmaker gave to him. (posted on WUS here: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f21/my-8f56-sbqj015-low-batt-2-years-advertised-10-year-battery-429182.html#post3235192 )He told me to come back to him in March 2011 in case it turned out that he was mistaken. Well, on 1 March 2011, the watch did indeed display “29”, as I expected. I went to Thong Sia instead, and they did set the year according to the manual.

    Hi Yeoman,

I need to send my Seiko 6138-0011 for a overhaul. Is it possible to get a quotation from Mr. Goh and send it to my mail?

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Thanks,

    • Yeoman 13/12/2012 at 3:56 pm

      Hi Wesley,

Unfortunately, Mr. Goh does not take jobs from overseas. Please try Jack at IWW or Randall Benson.

      Best regards,
      Thomas

You want to mail the watch to him for servicing and collect it when you are here?

      • Wesley 17/12/2012 at 9:39 pm

        Hi Yeoman,

Thanks again for your response. I will be coming back to Singapore for work early 2013, so I think it’s better to bring the watch to Mr. Goh when I return to Singapore.

I just want to know roughly how much the overhaul or service fee for my Seiko 6138-0011 (aka “UFO”). I also have other old Seiko watches needed some work to be done but the “UFO” is my priority.

Can you please email me the overhaul or service fee for the “UFO” once you get the quotation from Mr. Goh? Thanks a lot.

        Best regards,
        Wesley

  15. alan 26/02/2013 at 4:42 pm

    Dear Yeoman,

May i know is there a way to put on steel braclet for Seiko Riki Y675 Mechnical watch? the original leather strap is too fragile as it’s got torn off from the lug just for using a year.

    • Yeoman 05/03/2013 at 9:49 am

Any straight end steel bracelet with the correct width would fit. However, it looks odd on the Riki IMO. Best is to get a replacement strap.

    Hi Yeoman (cute name!)
2 questions for Mr Goh. Of K2

Q1 : My bro has a very old rolex watch, abt 30 yrs old and there are two missing links on the
bracelet , the crown is not working plus the watch is in terrible condition , ( ie based on my
limited superb knowledge of watches). Any change that Mr Goh can fix it?

Q2 : I have lady solid gold date just watch model 69178 and I need an original bezel to replace the
my current customized bezel with diamond. I sent in to Rolex centre Singapore to have it
Polish but the company refused to accept it citing that the bezel is not form rolex. Can you pl
check whether Mr Goh as the part, new or used (doesn’t matter)

    Thank you
    Anne

I went to K2 as my fortis watch is not able to wind. He hardly took a look at my watch before he said it cannot be repaired . I asked him if he can at least take a look , again he refused. I went home took the case apart and after tinkering the watch is able to wind and run. U called that a watch repairer? Maybe fame got into his big small head

  44. Perry 19/05/2016 at 12:45 pm

Do you have SRP741K1, how much?

  45. Abel 09/07/2016 at 3:44 pm

HI Yeoman! happy to find this very helpful article. for K2, any idea on how much is the estimated cost in servicing at 60s Seiko Skyliner? the watch loses around 30 seconds/day. a ballpark figure would be fine.

  46. Alvin 07/11/2016 at 3:24 pm

I think this blog content is very outdated.

This Goh at K2 is no longer interested in servicing vintage Seikos. I had a vintage 1972 Seiko Bullhead and called on him. He said cannot as no parts anymore due to age. I offered to get another working Bullhead to get him the parts. He still said don’t want to do. Reason – inside mostly got ‘gunk’ . What kind of stupid reason is that? Any vintage Bullhead to survive 40++ years and still working on the wrist still has ‘gunk’???

So am I to assume famous Seiko Mechanical Chrono he has no more skill to do? Or just lazy or no passion anymore. I read somewhere he said his brother taught him how to service Bullhead when young… I hung around his shop and he more interested in changing straps or mineral glass to sapphire.

And when his friend come by and say got some vintage Rolex he can do (and then sell) then he has a big smile.

As said, this blog is dated. Please don’t paint the picture that this Goh can service vintage seiko anymore. The best of vintage seikos he cannot do…

    Thanks.

  52. Goo Tong Low 20/09/2018 at 4:09 pm

i dont know wht everyone recommend him, i went down to see him and show him the watch i wanted to restore. 1960s seiko 5, he keep telling me no parts no parts. i told him will get spare to let him do restore for me he said fo find other ppl to do for you.
My impression is that all these ppl they just wanted quick money, easy Job and make quick bucks. No passionate about what they are doing. I also when to few other shops all of them tell me dont wast my money and time. i was like ????
Finally 1 shop tell me te truth, most of the ppl will not want to do the restore because it takes time and they rather spent time on less effort easier job or expensive watches.

    • Anton Chia 25/12/2018 at 5:18 pm

The real deal for vintage Seiko restoration was his late brother, restored many 6138/6139 for me over the years, for very low cost, until he passed away some years ago. All those watches he restored are still working fine and accurate. The younger K2 Goh prefers to do mods on modern watches versus restoring old vintage.
