Modded Seiko Divers

Here are two most frequently modified Seiko divers that I saw recently.

First is a modified monster. It is fitted with a blue Soxa dial and chrome hands. The hands are really nice to look at!

And here is a modified SKX diver. This one is done using parts from other Seiko watches.

Modifying a Seiko diver can be fun. The end result can be very different from the original model. The only limiting factor is the watch case. You can change the dial, hands, bezel insert and minute ring. You can use aftermarket parts or original Seiko parts but you are limited to only a few watch cases.

Picked up a black Orient Sub – CER00007B0

Picked up a black Orient Sub from Big Time recently. This watch comes in Sapphire and non-sapphire versions. I chose the Sapphire version because of two features:

  • the Sapphire crystal
  • it has the Orient logo on its dial.

Here is picture of the two versions:

Broken loupe

Here’s a Seiko Perpetual Calendar with a broken loupe. Owner must have smashed the watch against a hard surface causing the loupe to break.

If I remember correctly, this watch is installed with Hardlex crystal which is supposed to be more shatter proof. The question is, is the loupe made of Hardlex crystal as well?

Citizen ‘Arnie’

Came across this Citizen ‘Arnie’ recently. Someone took it to the watchmaker to change the battery but too bad it doesn’t work.

Orient shipment at Big Time

Here are some watches that I saw at Big Time today.

First, a new model that looks like the Rolex Datejust. I think this one has to be nicknamed as the Orient Datejust. Included in the shipment are the black, blue two-tone variants. Installed with Sapphire ceystal and crown does not screw in.

The Orient Subs are also back in stock. Pictured below is a black dialed Orient Sub with Sapphire crystal. The non-sapphire version is available as well.

Ladies Orient Subs are also available this time. Saw three color variants namely black, blue and brown.

Here is a new 100m sports model. It reminds me of the Seiko Sports 100 the moment I saw it.

Next, the 300m Orient diver. This is the two tone version that looks really nice. I am planning to get the Orange variant which unfortunately is out of stock at the moment.

“I Love Seiko” Prize Presentation

The prize presentation of the "I Love Seiko" video contest took place on 12th Dec 2009 at Thong Sia Singapore and I’m happy to document the event here:

Photos from other collectors

I am always happy to hear what others have purchased and recently two collectors shared their new purchases with me.

First, Dorian from France shared with me his Seiko H-Timetron. Below is what he wrote.

just a short mail to present you my new Seiko…a not current model i
think… a H-Timetron. It’s a very funny watch and if you have any
information about the year , tell  me because i don’t know if it’s a
real vintage or a tribute to the 80’s.

And i want to tell you ..i’m jealous about your collection…. very impressive. It’s my dream ..a tuna can. May be one day.

Next is Benjamin Chan, a fellow Singaporen who shared with me his Seiko Spirit, SCEA001. This is a discontinued model but he managed to get it with some help from SeiyaJapan. Below is what he wrote about the watch.

Its part of the Spirit line, with the V654 movement and the dial
and case is nicely finished. I liked it cos of the sub-dial are located
at 3, 6 & 9 positions, which is a little different to the normal
12, 6 & 9 locations of a lot of Seiko chronos. The only gripe is no date, but since i got is as a dress watch, there isnt really a need.

2010 Calendar

It’s year end again and here are the 2010 calendars that I received from Seiko dealers, K2 and Big Time. They are printed by Seiko distributor, Thong Sia Group.
